What is the Simple Adventure System?

The final revisions and rewrites to the core manual are taking place now.

In the mean time, let me explain what the Simple Adventure System actually is.

It is a stripped down, straight-forward take on table top role-playing games. It focuses largely on story telling and character interactions. It can be a quick, fun, board-game like experience or it can be a long, intense campaign. The thing that makes the Simple Adventure System amazing is that it can be whatever you want. We do not tell you how to play, but rather encourage you to play as you see fit.

The system is modular. We provide the basic rules that govern a player's journey through a world of your creation. We will also periodically publish modules. These modules will first and foremost be a set of additional rules or modifications to the original rules. These additions and modifications will allow the system to work with the setting that the module is intended for.

For instance, a modern module may have rules governing cars, guns, law enforcement, etcetera. Because these things are not covered in the core manual, they must be addressed on a per-module basis depending on the setting of the module.

Also in these modules will be a campaign. This will include a story line, descriptions of places and characters along with maps and diagrams to assist a game master in leading their party through the game world.

These modules should be considered just a starting point. The goal is to get the Simple Adventure System in to the hands of gamers and see what they do with it. We would like to see players and game masters developing their own modules, rules additions, modifications, and more. But because this can be time consuming, and because the Simple Adventure System will also appeal to casual gamers, we intend to provide a few basic adventures to get things started.

For those of you who find traditional table top gaming daunting, consider this: The Simple Adventure System core manual will have no more than 20 pages. This manual provides everything you need to begin an adventure, with no additional rules necessary. Mind you, the core manual does not include classes or abilities, so character progression will be limited to simply increasing the three main attributes, but there is nothing stopping you from picking up the manual and starting an adventure immediately!
